Research Interests

To date, my research has focused on understanding the nature and maintenance of eating disorder psychopathology, evaluating psychological treatments for eating disorders, and identifying predictors, moderators, and mediators of treatment outcome. We are currently conducting research aimed at understanding psychosocial factors that may explain why some young people are more vulnerable to developing disordered eating and body image dissatisfaction than others. Current studies are focused on the role of weight-based stigma and difficulties with emotion regulation.

Clinical Interests

I am a registered clinical psychologist with the Newfoundland Psychology Board. My main areas of expertise are eating disorders and other difficulties relating to eating and body image. I also work with adults suffering from depression and anxiety disorders, as well as more general concerns such as relationship difficulties and low-self- esteem. My therapeutic orientation is integrative, drawing on cognitive behaviour therapy, emotion-focused therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy. To enquire about clinical services, please email Dr. Carter (jacquelinec@mun.ca).
